We've got a poster on the board who goes by the handle "Silent Running." What connection does that have to track?

Well Al-Joyner said that in 1988 Flo-Jo had perfected the angle in which her foot hit the ground when she was sprinting..and when she continued to run no sound could be heard.
It may not be correct, but the story is pretty good.

Re: Trivia On A Poster's Name
I presume you are talking about the star of the film 'Silent Running', Bruce Dern. A long time runner, he was a mid 1:50's 880 runner in high school (Oak Park I believe) and the star of the running film 'On the Edge' that also starred a very fit Garry Bjorklund.

Re: Trivia On A Poster's Name
I saw Bruce Dern on the Tonight Show being interviewed by Johnny Carson when the film was being hyped. Dern told the story of working out on the Drake Stadium track. He said he was moving along pretty good when some guy politely asked him, "Would you please jog in the outside lane?" Dern was incensed and was going to show this guy who the jogger was, until he realized it was current world record holder John Walker doing some quarters in prep. for the weekend Pepsi Meet.

Re: Trivia On A Poster's Name
Actually, it is New Trier High School.
Also the story about Walker and Dern is pretty funny as the same thing happened to me. One time in the late 70's when I lived in Eugene, I was running repeat quarters by myself, late one evening at Hayward Field, at what I thought was a pretty good pace, 70-71. All of sudden out of the blue this guy with an accent comes up behind and asks if I would not 'jog' in the first lane. It was, of course, John Walker.
