  • Penn Relays 1973-77?

Anybody have special memories of the Penn's from early to mid-1970's? Off the top off my head, names such as Tony Darden of Norristown, Pa., William Reid of Phila. Central HS, Sheila Ingram of Washington, D.C. (Coolidge HS),Howard U . with Reggie Sojourner and Sosnell White's relay teams come to mind. The Atoms TC, Boys High, a hurdler named Art Monk from White Plains, NY.

Other DC kids- Robin Campbell of Eastern High, Mark Artis of Coolidge, Butch Jennings of Coolidge, miler/half-miler Bill Contee of H.D. Woodson High, and our McKinley Tech 4 x 110 relay team of 1976 (featuring Anthony Bigsby, Danny Rainey and Barry Tolliver)

15 years to get through high school!! No wonder he never made it at the collegiate level.

Wow! I sensed that Reed was a 1970's athlete, because Bill Cosby took an interest in his career (having attended Central himself). Doesn't seen as recent as '88 for some reason (which was Cosby show era).

Maybe you were thinking of another great CHS sprinter, Carlton Young '79. Young was Nat'l Jr champ in '78 as a 16-year-old junior, and was later NCAA indoor 400 champ for Villanova.
