  • equine records...

According to this website (http://www.horsesport.org/fei/pdfs/refe ... ART-II.PDF) men and horses are just about equally matched in jumping proficiency. This lists the world record horse high jump at 2.47 meters (accomplished in Chile in 1949) and horse long jump at 8.40 meters (South Africa, 1975). Of course men were riding on the horses's backs. It seems doubtful that men could jump that while well carrying a horse around.

You are probably right. In any case it would have to be a very small horse and even then 20ft would probably be the limit for a man. That seems to be the consensus in horse-on-the-back jumping circles. Without a rider 9 meters for a horse should definitely be doable unless it leads to a motivational problem.
