Britain's (and one of the world's) greatest ever athlete is 50 today.
To show how great he was,
He won EVERY major championship he contested between the 1978 Euros (2nd) and 1987 Worlds (9th, injured)
He didn't lose a single competition at his best discipline that he finished during that time either
He broke the world record 4 times
He beat the WR holder in at least 3 of those majors, breaking the WR in 2
And above all,
In 1983, he had been injured for 14 weeks and could not train, while his main rival broke the WR today's birthday boy set in the previous Euros and a compatriot was not far behind.
Yet he beat them both and won the inaugural world title.
If that isn't competitiveness, what is.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SIR DALEY THOMPSON!
