  • Who are they ?

This is from memory so I cannot remember one of the first names: ( I'll add it when I get home):

Who are the following 4 people ? What did they do ? Where and when did they do it ? (I was there.)

    Doug Tynan
    Frank Hegarty
    Armstead
    Leslie Pinder

pretty sure I have the 4 names correctly.

    Ok Steve,

    Here are my educated guesses.

Tynan - good 400m runner in early 1960's. In Fordham Hall of Fame.

Hegarty - Irish distance runner from the 20's

Ray Armstead was the 3 time MIAA indoor 400 champion

Leaslie Pinder was a British Track athlete in the 1940's and 50's.

    Did I get any correct?

It is possible that you might have backed into one of them but the thrust of the question is them as a group ( Hint: it's a relay team )

Must be a 4 x 400m relay of some type

"In 1958, St. Francis Prep, with Frank Hegarty, Joe Armstead, Doug Tynan and Les Pinder, ran 3:17.5, a national high school record. Their Carnival Record was not bettered until 1967, the first year of the synthetic track on Franklin Field."

You call that "a wild guess"... surely you jest, you expert you, as you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

I was a 15 year old sitting in the stands that day.

Good work here too, but Rob beat you by 7 minutes and 41 seconds. But you get a red ribbon, Rob gets the blue.

Story of my life. Two red ribbons in state high school championships so many years ago and a red ribbon on the message board.

                      Re: Who are they ?

A tiny correction to Rob's answer, it was 4 x 440 yards, the good old-fashioned mile realy, not 4x400m as you described it. Don't worry you still get the blue ribbon.
