Olympic Trials were June 13-14 that year, which was the same weekend the NCAA was on in those days. So they simply didn't hold it, recommending "that member-colleges enter their men in sectional and conference meets so as ato qualify as large a number of athletes as possible for the final Olympi tryouts." As a meet with only three years of tradition behind it, it wasn't that tough a decision.
In any case, in that era, the IC4A was still the "real" collegiate championships and it was held May 31, Yale beating Penn for the team title by a point with Stanford another 2.5 back.
