Didn't Joaquim Cruz run for Oregon? He would certainly have to be considered more successful than Pre.

ok, the oldies but the goodies from the late 50's and early sixties such as Bill Dellinger and Dyrol Burleson, they were truly great, great runners....

If you don't even remember whether he did or not, I submit he's probably not as famous or successful in the big picture.

It was more of a rhetorical question intended to point out that Pre's fame is based on the percieved unfulfilled abilities due to his tragic death. That fame seems to be appreciated by American's of a certain generation (currently older) and other American track nuts (myself included), but less so internationally.

There were other athletes from Oregon who actually fulfilled their potential, as Joaquim Cruz did, and are appreciated and remembered internationally and nationally.

Although, there is no Cruz invitiational in Oregon but there is a Pre invite (so, I could be wrong)
