  • 400m Trivia ...

Who was the oldest sub-45" sprinter in history ?...

  • #2
Mike Larrabee was either 30 or 31 when he set a WR at 44.9 in 1964. That may very well make him the oldest WR setter in the 400 but by this time I would think some other oldsters have cracked 45.

Larrabee never did it auto-timed. He won the Olympic title in 45.15.

I suppose his WR 44.9 h at the FOT is now listed as an adjusted 45.02 ?

Is it the same guy who is also oldest to run sub-44?

MJ did sub-44 at 33 in Sydney, and Butch Reynolds did 44.89 at 34.

The WMA record for M35 (yes we know the records aren't reliably updated) is 45.76.

Angelo Taylor, Derrick Brew, and Tony Pettigrew all had long careers.

That was an incredible race, it sure looked like Larrabee ran the first 3/4 much too slow... had he gone out a bit faster we could have had a WR... or of course a pulled hamstring.

Angelo Taylor isn't even 30 yet!

                      That mark has been annulled.
