  • Mark Covert on ABC Weekend News

The ABC national news. had a story about some guy running every day for 40 years. I thought it would be some dumb story, but it was about Mark Covert who was a pretty good runner back in the 70's. I think he ran for the Aggies TC. He also led the Oly trials marathon in 72 at around 15 miles before falling back.

Mark no run for Aggies TC (unless he did in mid to latter 70s) but did w/ Pacific Coast Club and East Los Angeles Track Club ... not sure of any others. What they didn't mention was some (more) of his accolades - which have been partially enumerated here before. Just as dedicated then (70s) as he is now. I believe Mark was the first athlete / runner to cross a finish line on a certified course in Nike Waffle shoes. And that may have been the 72 Oly trials.

Covert, who went to Fullerton State, was 7th in the 72 Trials in 2:23.
