decathlon all-time list and pre1986 marks

Should pre 1986 marks in the decathlon be converted to current scoring tables and used in all-time lists. I ask because, if there was a differential achieved in distances using the 'old' and current models of javelin, then should some conversion factor be used. Or is it perfectly valid to use the data and convert to current tables. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

The IAAF decided (wrongly, IMHO) that there was no need to change the scoring tables when the new javelin came in. And there's no usable "conversion factor," so decathletes since then (and hepthatles since '99 on the women's side) compete with a built-in penalty vis à vis their predecessors.
