I remember Jim in high school at Kansas City Southwest. He was about 6'2" or so and looked to weigh maybe 150 lbs soaking wet. Jim played 1 year on the city champs JV team and he won a game for us. Was in the huddle when the play came in to send Jim out on the flank and you could hear the opposing coach screaming cover him. Jim took off and the ball got to him and we won 7-0.
Of course his forte was track and to break under 50 seconds in the 440 was quite an achievement back in the late 50s. On top of that he was a really nice guy.

    .
    • Jim Baker – Track & Field (1960-62)

A Kansas City, Mo., product, Baker was an All-American and the national runner-up in the 440-yard dash at the 1962 NCAA Outdoor Championships. By today’s All-America standards, Baker would have been a three-time selection, recording top-eight national finishes in 1960 and 1961 as well.
    ****
Baker probably has no fans in these parts anymore, or now even anybody but myself who's heard of him, but this was a long time in coming so as they say better late than never.
So at 81 something for the ole guy to savor.

Re: Jim Baker. If you have not located him, I have known him since grade school. I talked briefly with him about 4 years ago via phone. His primary residence was in Kentucky. Two fellows, who knew Jim from Marine days, communicate with him on a regular basis. If you are interested, I can talk with them. No guarantees.

Thanks EPelle for taking the time to respond and try to help out, but I attempted
to get ahold of Jim thru classmates, but it indicates my E-Mail sent to him was never even opened so I gather his account is inactive ? Thanks again though, I appreciate it.
