  • World Record Holder From Kansas

Born and died in Kansas, our birthday athlete today (Monday) would be 104 years old this day. He's an Olympic champion. He set a world record. He was the NCAA champion in this same event as well as the AAU champ. He set an American record in a different event and actually won the AAU championship in that event (not the event in which he won the Olympic gold medal). The person who won the silver medal behind his gold medal went on to become more famous than our birthday athlete. Can you name the Olympic champion who was born 104 years ago today?

John Kuck - 1928 Olympic Champion in SP (with his other main event being the JT).

Good job, Rob and happy birthday today to Johnny Kuck who won the gold medal in the shot put back in 1928. The man who won the silver medal in that Olympics was Herman Brix (University of Washington) and later became Bruce Bennett, the movie star. Bruce Bennett played Tarzan, but my favorite movie of his was "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre". In fact, that's my favorite Humphrey Bogart movie.

Is it proper to wish a happy birthday to someone who is dead?
