It was 55 years ago today (Wednesday) that Roger Bannister, a 25 year old medical student, first broke the four minute mile. Most of you know that he ran and won the race in 3:59.4, but did you know that he ran that race on a Thursday? Next year, on the 56th anniversary of the race, May 6 will fall on a Thursday. Congratulations Roger Bannister and long live the mile.
