  • Presidential Cross Country

This shouldn't be too difficult. Name the only U.S. president who ran cross country in college. Hint: George Washington never went to college nor did Abe Lincoln.

Here is a twist on this topic. Which high ranking member of W's administration (Bush for the uninformed) ran cross country in school, and still runs? (NOt W.)

That's the first I've heard about Jimmy Carter (Mr. 1980-Olympic-Boycott to the uninitiated) as a X-C runner. How good was he?

Carter was the fourth man on their team. He wasn't a bad runner. I'm not sure about his times in track.

            Couldn't run a good 10-K, though! :-)

In truth, the "collapse" in that road race was a significant factor (in my opinion) in his '80 defeat--it presented unforgettable visual evidence of "weakness."

Since no one paid attention to my question, I will answer it myself: It is Bob Zoellick, the US Trade Representative. I ran against Bob in high school (he went to Naperville Central near Chicago).

                  I didn't know that one.

                    Re: Presidential Cross Country

Bush himself could have been a decent distance runner, had he been so inclined during his youth.

I read that he ran 3 miles in 20:29 with some Marine recruits in early 2003. Not bad for someone his age who's never had any formal training!

What college/university did Zoellick run for?

What major-party presidential nominee was a varsity cross country runner in college? And the school?

Was Bob Dole the college cross-country runner? He was reportedly an excellent half-miler. Don't know what school he attended, though.

You might be right, but that's not the person I have in mind.

I think DJ is talking of Dukakis, and I think he went to Boston College. I know Dukakis ran the Boston Marathon once.

By the way, where did Zoellick go to university?
                              I can't remember off hand.
