In its latest attempt to discredit my record again Track and Field News did not cover the testimony of Meet Diretor Tom Moore and thirty year wind gauge veteran official Leon Glover,Jr. Instead it relied upon an expert non official sports reporter up in the stands looking at flags flying after my jump. In the Olympic Trails in 1968 I had four fair jumps when jumpers before and after me had wind aided jumps. They are trying to blame the victum and save face for St. Nelson and Bob Hersh who are mean spirited and lack an athletes heart for fairness. I will not respond to anymore attacks on me. I have honestly presented the facts which Track and Field News ignores. They did not read the Submission. Read Athleteic Weekly from England to get a fair understanding or the New York Times.

Re: Track and Field News is mean spirited
Track and Field News is not the source of your problems. Your lack of ability to accept your status as a former good athlete who never held a world record is your problem. Get past it and stop trying to contrive a situation in which you should get a world record but others conspire against you. For crying out loud, how against you could T&FN be? They let you rant against them on their own message board. For your own mental health I think you should get over this issue and get on with enjoying your life.

Of course it could be interperted that this proves how mean spiriting TFN is. If they were kind they'd ban Mr Shinnick so he could case making a fool of himself in public.

Re: Track and Field News is mean spirited
My HS's gym burned down 10 years ago, with the board that held the school's track records progression, which I was on, and they won't take my word that I was on it!! I'm suing! (all but the last part true)

Re: Track and Field News is mean spirited
I've been away on biz since last Thursday and have not logged in. I cannot believe he's posted again. Phil, for gods sake let it go and get a life (and, since I'm writing this, you never did explain why you never again got within ONE FOOT of that jump).

Re: Track and Field News is mean spirited
I think this is all beating a dead horse... Phil should let it go, if he is convinced he jumped legally then he doesn't need the official stamp of approval nearly 40 years later. On the other hand if the T&F wisemen feel he deserves the record retroactively, why should any of us object. I will go to Phil's defense on one basis, though... Jumping back close to a PR has little bearing on the legitimacy of the mark. What was Beamon's 2nd best mark? Did he ever legally jump in the 28 foot range? I know that some folks have doubts about the wind at Mexico City, but no one would seriously challenge Beamon's one monster jump by saying it is invalid because he never approached it again.
