  • Eva Wilms W/R Heptathlon , 21.40m Shot

Does anybody have any information on Eva Wilms ? How unique an athlete was she to break a world record in a multi-discipline event , and to be a world class thrower at the same time . I understand that her career was curtailed by a serious car accident - but just how good was she ? Could a world class thrower today be able to challenge for a medal at heptathlon or decathlon ?

Wilms was a great athlete, to be sure, and even though she was No. 2 in the World Rankings in '77, her status as "world record holder" in the pentathlon (not heptathlon) is a little bit dodgy. That was the year that the event changed from finishing with a 200 to an 800 and she was the first one to put up a big score and by the end of the year she was no longer the highest scorer.

Eva Wilms, actually most stunning and legendery all-arounder

Eva Wilms[July 28, 1952],whose legendary career lasted so shortly,a 3 times former WR in pentathlon ,once of them indoors. how increadible her strength is,21.43m outdoors and 21.06m indoors in shot putting.Even at that times ,she tries sll the disciplines of heptathlon,as well as discus of 59.42m in 1980.the javelin In 1973 she unleashed 48.74m and the shot no more than 17m passibly, according to 17.30 performance in 1974.

Strangely,in 1970 European Junior championships, she only throw 12.57m. more deserves we attention are .
In 1976 oly year, she established 4924p,ont only 8p less than pollak setiing in 1973, but also almost 200p higher than the winner in the oly game winner.regrettly, there sre no specific datas in every individual event .I only knew the 4924p including a 20.94m shot putting[also her best performance that year]and a 23.9 hand time in 200m.However,she only participated in shot in oly, achieveing only 19.29m ,lining in7th.Perhaps she injured.
In 1977,pentathlon changed 200m to 800m,which she quickly created a indoor WR pentathlon of 4641p,but have actually a bad news for her sprint is obviously better. what have to say is ,the result did not match her ability entierly.outdoor she established two WR successively .

In 1978,owing to lacking cosiderable information ,The only thing I known was her competition level rapidly flop down, blasting only 20.10 SBand 5th 19.20 result in EC.
In 1980, she established 20.54m shot and increased her discus mark to 59.42m.Regrettablly,she had no chance to take part in moskva Oly Games because of inevitablly involving into the boycott of West Gemany.
Here are her shot mark in pentathlon:

What is more, Eva Wilms has a hint of strong Javelin and relatively great 200m speed.IF not the old scoring tables have a smaller gap in shot put,her pentathlon record can stay until 1980 oly.[16.96m for 1000p,however,to reach 1200p ,21.00m is must.for the 1985 tables ,20.02m equals 1200p, 21.00 is worth of 1267p].
predict that if at her peak time hep is oly event, her mark as follow:
          13.80-1.75-20.93-24.01-6.19-55.88-2.20.44 6865p

Eva Wilms can throw the shot out to 21.43m for all-round athletes,if not she did not pass 21m in Pentathlon ,stunning beyond the highest scores in scoring table at that times. It also means she can throw 5-9m than the other elites in the world, fabulous enough to watch the measurers fly to the much more distant places .

eva Wilms actually had 4924p in 1976 pen,the second highest ever ,including 20.94m SP and 23.9s,however,she did not take part in pen in 1976 oly.She was elected the best womef of West Gemany in 1977.her shot best was 21.43m, wow, actually ,she can throw 16 SP futher than the majorities dec.
Only Irina Press could be world top-class in SP and pen.

No,no,no, if not the change 200 to 800,her record would be much tougher,800m is a really bad event for her,in 1976 she was only 8p gap to pollak WR 4932P,if the hep was introduced at that time, it would be better,JV is really an advantage for her,can release 48.74m in 1973,she was not beyond 17.30m for shot and 48.93m for discus.

Info The replacement, as from the beginning of 1977, of the 200 m by the 800 m, has caused a major upheaval in the women's pentathlon. East Germany, which had taken the first three places at the Montreal Olympics with Sigrun Siegl, Christine Laser and Burglinde Pollak, the world record-holder, was taken by surprise. Failing to find athletes likely to maintain their supremacy in this event, they purely and simply scratched from the European Cup for multiple sports, a competition that they had always won. In 1978, at the European Championships in Prague, the new East German onslaught was still not ready, and it was again Burglinde Pollak who saved face by winning the silver medal (after the disqualification of the winner, the Russian Nadejda Tkatchenko, who had shown a "positive" result in the drug test). The difficulties of adaptation encountered by the two "greats" of the women's pentathlon,

East Germany and the USSR, just suited the powerful West German Eva Wilms, who was able to inscribe her name twice on the world record tables. Eva Wilms had taken part in her first pentathlon in 1976. She was essentially a shot-putter (holder of the West German record with 21.43 m, she had finished 7th in the Olympics at Montreal). When she established her second world record in June 1977 at Bernhausen, she put the shot 20.95 m, which brought her 1,198 points, that is only 2 points away from the maximum fixed by the international scoring table. With an 800-m run in more than 2 min 19 sec, however, it was obvious that she was to be only an ephemeral record-holder. The disqualification of Nadejda Tkatchenko in Prague, however, gave her performance added value.
