That's right. This Olympic champion was born 100 years ago today (Friday) in Missouri. This runner won the gold medal at the age of 23. A graduate of the University of Iowa, this athlete stood 6' 3" tall. Less than one year after winning the gold medal, this Olympic champion was killed in a car crash in Missouri. Very good dj. Here are some additional hints. This athlete equalled the world record in winning his semi-final. Don Finlay of Great Britain took the bronze medal to prevent a U.S. 1-2-3. In the next Olympics, Don Finlay got the silver medal in this event.
One more hint: The only German in this final (in which our birthday athlete won) was disqualified. He didn't run out of his lane and he didn't interfere with any of the other finalists.

I have not looked anything up, but I believe it must be a high hurdler, as I think this Finlay doubleRbar mentioned was one. But from memory I do not know who won the OG HH in '28 or '32, the only probably ones based on his age.Comment

That would be George Sailing. I did not look it up, honest, but happened to note it when I was searching my Olympic book about the discuss/polevault boo-boo in the 32 Olympics. I think I noticed it because I had never heard the name.Comment
