Ah.......No, But I've read about them. They definitely qualify as legendary duals.

I've checked the September 8th 1984 edition of Athletics Weekly, which lists two qualifying rounds for the women's 100m - Auerswald, Bailey and Bacoul qualify from heat one, Williams, Gohr, Gladisch and Jackson from heat two. The eighth finalist, Ashford, apparently got a bye to the final, which she proceeded to win. Doesn't seem fair to me!

As far as the great duels are concerned, the earlier mention of Bouin-Kohlemainen would certainly be near the top of the lsit. The winnng time of 14:36.6 was the first race under 15 minutes for 5000 [though Alfred Shrubb's best 3 Miles. 8 years ealier was equivalent to 14:48 for 5k]

The '54 Mile would definitely meet all criteria for a great duel, as would the Kuts-Pirie 10k in '56

Others that would rate would be the OT high jump of '36 where both Johnson and Albritton broke the WR with 6'9 3/4", the Olympic X/C of 1924 where Nurmi (still smarting from not being allowed to run the 10k) beat his great rival Ritola (who won the 10k with a WR 30:23.2) by 1:24.6, the USA-Jamaica 4x400 in 1952. The list is not endless, but could go on for quite a while.

Yep, and lightning. Nowadays they would stop a meet with lightning that close.
