  • RIP Chris McCubbins, 72 Olympian

    Chris McCubbins, 1969 NCAA Steeplechase champ, USA Olympic Team 1972, Canadian Olympic Team l976, died of Leukemia Friday, August 21, after a long illness.
    He competed at Oklahoma State U in the l960s. Became a Canadian citizen after l972.

    Thank you, NMTraxter. Although he, and you, were a generation behind me at Okla State (nee Okla A&M) I remember his and your accomplishments. I was not aware he was in poor health.

      Yes, RIP, Chris...
      A great athlete, and a great human being....
      He made himself into one of the most aerobically fit guys on the planet., out of not much talent, and sheer determination... Ask Jack Daniels...

          Winnipeg, Manitoba. That is where Chris called home ever since he moved to Canada, other than a stretch of about 18 months when he lived in Victoria.

              I saw McCubbins win the 1967 NCAA steeple in Provo...was always impressed with his strength...sad news indeed.
