  • First Outdoors and Indoors

Today (Friday) is my 105th birthday (I did die in 1983). I am the Olympic champion in the pole vault. I was the first to vault over 14 feet outdoors and indoors. I graduated from Yale University and I was in the lumber business in Oakland, California before I died some 26 years ago. Who am I?

As a prep junior he was the AAU high school All-America selection in . . . the javelin.

And some people get him mixed up with the winner of the 400 meters in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics (who set a world record in winning that race). They have the same last name, but different first names.

And his first name is the same as the last name of a famous medical researcher.

Let's hope that the continuing delay in typing Sabin Carr (1928 Olympic PV champ) is not the result of some disabling accident to our well-informed associates in this forum. Maybe they follow an old Labor Day tradition of avoiding labor.

Very good James Fields. The correct answer is Sabin Carr. He was born 105 years ago last Friday.
