  • Olympic Upset?

Today (Saturday) I turn 50 years old. Some say when I won the Olympic gold medal in South Korea, it was a major upset. Even though I was born in Wisconsin, I attended high school in San Jose and college at UCLA (where I was the NCAA champion). Today I live in Stockton, California. Who am I?

I think the biggest upset of the 1988 Olympics by an American was Louise Ritter, but she's a Texan...Steve Lewis isn't 50 yet...neither is Joe DeLoach...so I'm gonna go with>>>

    Andre Phillips...happy birthday.

Slowrunner, you went with a winner. Yes, today is the 50th birthday of Andre Phillips. He ran a personal best of 47.19 to win the gold medal in Seoul. Amadou Dia Ba (who was fifth in L.A. in 1984) took the silver medal. Edwin Moses got the bronze running 47.56. By the way, Dia Ba ran 47.23, the only time he ever ran under 48.00.
      Happy birthday, Andre!
