  • Memorable quotes/phrases in TV announcing

There are always quotes from race broadcasts that stick out in your mind (e.g. "Look at Mills!"). I thought this might be an interesting thread in which to share some that are particularly engraved in your head. Maybe even turn it into a quiz type thread.

Two that replay in my mind all the time:

    1. " . . . DaSilva giving chase! . . . "

    2. "______'s GOTTA get on his horse right here."

Two fairly easy ones (I think). Name the competitions/relevant athletes/whatever other details you feel like.

Well, this was supposed to be a track thread, but all good ones.

If anyone cares, both of mine are from the 90's, involving two different athletes with the same first name.

Classic stuff from Ron Pickering with regard to Ovett in the 1977 world cup 1500m.

"And this one man's blazing speed that has torn this field asunder"

About 20 - 30 meters after the start of women's 100m, on outdoor track straightaway, an often-critiqued lady announcer exclaimed concerning the front runner:
                    . . . . "She's already made up the stagger!"

Memorable for all the wrong reasons. Is she still working for NBC?

Carol Lewis: The 300m world record was set in "Pre-oria"(?!) which is in South Africa.

What a wonderful geography lesson from Carol.

Sorry, but I've got to mention a quote from baseball announcer Jerry Coleman:
"(Dave)Winfield goes back to the wall. He hits his head on the wall, and it rolls off! It's rolling all the way back to second base! This is a terrible thing for the Padres!"
