Good job, Halfmiler2. Happy birthday today to Michael Franks (46 years old today). I agree. His anchor in Australia was one of the most exciting I have ever seen. Michael Franks was born just a few weeks before President Kennedy was murdered in Texas.

I think Michael Franks ran that anchor. One of the greatest anchor legs on television I've ever seen. The meet was on the line and the USA dropped the baton on an exchange due to interference but Franks pulled out the race and the team title for Team USA. I think they changed the IAAF rule on 4x400 exchanges after that.

    No Gold Medals

This birthday athlete was born 46 years ago today (Wednesday). He never won an Olympic gold medal (never made an Olympic team) yet he won a silver medal in the first world championships in Finland. What I remember him for was his outstanding anchor leg at the World Cup in Australia. Do you know this runner from Southern Illinois?
