Well done, Mighty Favog. Yesterday was Eddie Tolan's birthday. Of course Eddie won the 100 and the 200 at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games. I'm not sure why he did not run on the gold medal winning 4 by 100 relay.
Eddie did not win the 1932 Olympic Trials and by today's rules, he might not have won the 100 in the L.A. Olympics. Today's rules say a runner must reach the finish line first to win. That means a runner need not cross the line, just reach it. In 1932, the rules said a runner must cross the line first in order to win.
Ralph Metcalfe took the silver medal at 100 meters in Los Angeles and again, in 1936 against Jesse Owens.

    Michigan Sports Hall of Fame

Today (Tuesday) marks the 101st birthday of a man who won the Olympic gold medals at 100 and 200 in the same Olympic Games. About 51 years ago he was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. Anyone know this Olympic champion born on September 29?
