If it does, it's a wrong answer anyway, since Ben was born in Jamaica too. And despite his disqualification, he was indeed the first Caribbean sprinter to WIN the WC.

But he didn't win it. We thought he won it at the time, but we know now that he did not. Carl Lewis was the world champion that year.

Interesting discussion, but I meant Kim Collins.

Without looking it up, every winner of the men's 100 m in the World Championships has been from either the USA or an island in the Caribbean:
                • 1983 Carl Lewis (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 1987 Carl Lewis (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 1991 Carl Lewis (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 1993 Linford Christie (Great Britain, but born in Jamaica)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 1995 Donovan Bailey (Canada, but born in Jamaica)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 1997 Maurice Green (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 1999 Maurice Green (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 2001 Maurice Green (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 2003 Kim Collins (St. Kitts and Nevis, actually from Nevis)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 2005 Justin Gatlin (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]
                • 2007 Tyson Gay (USA)[/*:m:13p21rrs]

We and Ben Johnson thought he was the World Champion in 1987, but it turns out we were wrong.
