I Still Own The World Record

Today (Tuesday) is my 42nd birthday. I won one Olympic gold medal in my event as well as two world championships gold medals. I also won two world championships silver medals in this same event.

I set the current world record in my event and it appears this mark might last another track and field season.

My country is just about the same size in area as is the state of Virginia.
Do you know who I am? I must say that I have been retired from track and field competition for several years now.

By the way, I set the current world record on the day before Jackie Kennedy Onassis' 64th birthday. Jackie died of cancer and never lived to see her 65th birthday.

This should have been in the historical section.

Very good, Ned Ryerson. Today is the birthday of Javier Sotomayor. He set the current men's high jump world record in Spain in July of 1993. That mark is already 16 years old. Javier turns 42 today.
