Is this alleged 230 for real, or another fabrication?

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=a ... &type=lgns

He had qualified for the U.S. Olympic trials in 1996 with a national-best high jump of 7 feet, 6 1/2 inches but didn’t make the Olympic team that year while he was an underclassman at Alcorn State.
    R. Hymans lists him as no-heighting in Atlanta.

Quick look at back issues of TFN, and I see no entry for Driver for the 1996 season (US list down to 2.19 - 7' 2.25") or 1995 (US list down to 2.18 - 7' 2")

Wasn't there a U of TX defensive back (James Lott?) who jumped 7-3?

Herman Moore jumped 7'3" also for UVA. Ray Doakes of Arkansas (2.32) had a brother who played for the Eagles. Does that count for something? Also a High Jumper for NC State in the mid 90's who allegedly jumped 2.30 I believe at least had a tryout in the NFL. (Boy does that ever sound Sketchy as a decscription) IIRC was runner up at '95 outdoor nationals in Knoxville.

                  Alvin Harper

I remember Alvin Harper of the Cowboys always being talked about his high jumping days in college when Dallas was making their SuperBowl runs in the early 90's. After a quick google, he is listed as an assistant coach at Howard University. His bio states he jumped 7'5.5" while at the University of Tennessee.

Not quite as high as Harper (or as good at football), but Percell Gaskins jumped 7'5 1/4" to win the 1993 NCAA indoor for Kansas State and played 2 years in the NFL for the Rams and Panthers.

also of note about Gaskins is the fact that he was a linebacker and weighed in around 230lbs.

I see nothing higher than 7-2.5 (Jr year) at Tennessee.

                          It was a practice jump.

braylon edwards jumped just over 7' as well, and probably from about a 7 step approach.

Reminds me of my own practice PRs. Like the time I did 18' in PV practice (in a dream) . . .
