  • trivia #2

I was but an alternate on the Oly team but when an injury sidelined one of our stars I had to step in.I ending up winning the gold medal.

I ran around the courtyard at Trinity College in Oxford not Harold Abrahams as the movie "Chariots Of Fire" would have you believe.

We are brothers who ran on the same 4x1 high school record team.

I was the only white sprinter to ever beat Bob Hayes.

What NFL Hall of Fame running back led the nation in the long jump his senior year in high school?

Not counting the Harrisons we are the fastest brothers ever from America.

    nuff!

    nuff!

I'll take a shot at 2 of them:

In 1960 Bill Nieder finished 4th in the FOT but after Dave Davis was injured, plus Nieder set a WR, Nieder took his place, went on to win in Rome.

I'll take a flat out guess at Darel Newman as the Hayes defeater.

      Ya nailed Newman.

I'm thinking of a sprinter as far as an alternate goes.

The long jumper that was an NFL star. My guess is Terry Metcalf of Santa Rosa, CA High School

How about Lord Burghley for the courtyard question.

The guy I'm thinking of is in the Hall Of Fame, Metcalf isn't.

Metcalf was a 25-10 ljer at Long Beach St.

                        Woodring is the man!

                        SMU's Pouncey bros would work!

                        Yep on Sayers!

That was great never thought anyone would get Sayers, I stumbled across that by accident checking on something else.

Seb Coe and Steve Cram raced around the courtyard a la Chariots of Fire.

The oddity about the Sayers mark is it was indoors at the outdoor state meet.

Brutal, can I get at least partial credit for my Nieder answer? Yes, Nieder was put on the team after he set a WR, but if Dave Davis had been completely up to snuff Bill would have stayed home.
