I think I recall he was a RM, Jr., and it was in the decathlon or a field event, about 1966.

Junior was the second to throw the HS hammer over 200', back in 1966 (I think). He went to Choate, in Connecticut.

Wrong age, wrong school. gh was Washington State and preceded Neilson by a few years.

I went to Choate when he did - he was a couple of years older. He was #1 on the team in shot, discus, hammer, never threw the jav in a meet but saw him throw 180' one day for fun. He could high jump and he could easily have made the 4x200 relay for us. He was about 5'10, 200 as I recall and seemed like a 'beast' to all us skinny little regular kids.
