I know you say "big track" but do you know of such a track? I don't think I've ever seen one.

I know nothing about him except that he was OG champ in 1928.... Percy Williams of Canada. He also won the 200. Was he a one-meet wonder ?

you mean with 10 lanes on the straight? You saw one if you were at TAC in ’81 (Hughes Stadium in Sacto).

Heat 2 was heavily loaded, but with each athlete running at their best I'd go for the following qualifiers into the semis (in no particular heat finishing order):

          Heat 1

          Ray Stewart
          Allan Wells
          Lennox Miller
          Donovan Bailey

          Heat 2

          Eugen Ray
          Usain Bolt
          Ben Johnson
          Don Quarrie

          Heat 3

          Hasely Crawford
          Frankie Fredericks
          Harry Jerome
          Asafa Powell

          Heat 4

          Silvio Leonard
          Valeri Borzov
          Linford Christie
          Ato Boldon

Begs the question, what's the record number of lanes both on the straight and the oval?

Hardly a one-meet wonder. In 1930 he ran the first official 10.3 WR. Ran lots of indoor races in the States. Won 19 out of 21 races. Never regained top form after 1930 due to injuries.

Williams was only 126 pounds when he won in 28. As Per mentioned he was more than just an Olympic champion.

I suspect you maybe dropped Ray - for Surin?

Not possible with current heat line up. What about Peter Radford?

Why not? They (Ray & Surin) were both in Heat 2. (i.e. Surin qualifies at the expense of Ray, not that one of them has to be dropped from the heat line-up, as the original line-up was Avante's, and I was just proposing qualifiers)
