  • Youngest U.S. Olympian?

What U.S. Olympian is said to have been in junior high while competing in the Games?

(Note: MAY have been in junior high while making the team but moved on to HS before the Games started)

Barbar Jones who won a relay gold in 52 or 56? Or is she just the youngest gold medalist ever?

OK, that was too easy. Name another 15-year old (but who was a few months older than Jones at time of Games).

I dunno... but here is an easier one. What MALE made the olympic team at age 17 by achieving a milestone mark that, among Americans, only his two team mates had ever done?

              Esther Stroy?

              no, no, wait... Meredith Ellis!

Naw, it is not him again. I don't know of any milers who fit the category I described... there may be one but I dunno who!

How about Bob Mathias and the Sullivan award?

Old vaulter knows all, as always... anyone with his dating history has to be respected. As for Mathias, had both his teammates won the Sullivan Award? And were they the only Americans to have done so?

In individual event, maybe Cathy Hamblin(b.1/53), Pentathlon at Mexico City? I remember watching her compete here in Albuquerque. She retired, apparently, after '68.

Carrigan (and Rey Brown) '68 were both in the first months of their senior years when they went to Mexico City
