Re: Central Collegiate Conference, trivia
[quote="Mighty Favog"]I'm doing some research on this once-important organization and its meets, with an eye towards compiling results from it's first 50 years (1926-1976). Some trivia I've uncovered...
How is this project going? I have some questions about the late 50's -- early 60's, but can't figure out how to contact you directly.

Re: Central Collegiate Conference, trivia
Who'd have thunk it. Weird. I want to see results of a race that look like this...
1) Keith Hanson
2) Keith Hanson

Sorry but I believe this clue is actually two different people. Keith Hanson that ran for Marquette and won 2 CCC X-C titles is not the same Keith Hanson coaching the Hanson/Brooks Racing team.
The X-C champ; KEITH HANSON Marquette Track & Field 1982-1986

A multi-event track and field star, Keith Hanson won the 10,000 meters at the 1986 NCAA Championships and was a three-time Division I All-American in cross country, finishing third at the NCAA championships in 1985, 12th in 1984 and 17th in 1983.

Bingo. Alderman won titles at the NCAA, IC4A and CCC. I'm guessing that's not particularly common, although as yet I don't have the data to prove it.

Re: Central Collegiate Conference, trivia
I'm impressed. Most people would have gone with Dave Wottle and been wrong. Sid Sink is right.
The Michigan State athlete had the advantage of competing in the very first CCC championship, which was really just a quad meet.

Another hint (admittedly a bit obtuse): My 1971 newspaper source mentioned the "six career wins" thing because someone hit that total in the 1971 meet.

Central Collegiate Conference, trivia
I'm doing some research on this once-important organization and its meets, with an eye towards compiling results from it's first 50 years (1926-1976). Some trivia I've uncovered...
1). According to 1971 newspaper reports, as of that year only four athletes had six career wins at the CCC outdoor championships (individual events, not counting relays). Who were they?
2). Two different athletes who won back-to-back CCC XC titles later became better known as coaches to elite clubs which emphasized the marathon. Who were they?Tags: None
