Yes, professor, it is in large part "semantics"--using terms in ways that are actually meaningful, without resorting to the "popular wisdom" of 50 or 150 years ago. The above sentence could equally well apply to any number of ideas--take astrology, as an example. Do we therefore presume that all sides of the "astrology question" are correct? The key idea I've always come back to is the significance of genetic populations--which your definition clearly points to--rather than the useless notion of "race."

But, as this thread and all its feeble predecessors proves, "A falsehood is halfway around the world before the truth puts its boots on."

This is exactly, where the whole concept becomes a point of contention. A small, select population of west African origins has that gene. To apply it to a "Negroid ancestry", as you put it delicately, or "blacks" as would be a more common statement is clearly an oversimplification. Look at Kuha's analogy that all Pulitzer Prize winners are mammals. Very apt.

BTW, sickle cell mutation is not necessarily "bad". Natural selection favored it for its prophylactic property against malaria. Subsequently developed anemia was an "unitended consequence".

Dang, Squak, you actually can "bend them strangs." I am not an expert but that sounded just like real music.

Re: WRs by age and ethnic background

Your are correct, Pego. That "fast" gene is traceable to West Africa, an example of geographic distribution of selected genes. I painted with too broad a brush in the interest of brevity.
Also, the "sickle cell anemia" example was just one example of mutations that I grabbed, again without elaborating on the details.

And now we begin to get at the heart of the matter. For this subject, a broad brush NO LONGER SERVES ANY CONSTRUCTIVE PURPOSE.

Re: WRs by age and ethnic background

Ok I can see I was totally wrong. I thought I was watching black sprinters win everything and set all the records, after reading those of you who really understand this stuff, I can see that was just an illusion. What am I looking at then......help me please. I need to get rid of my old/boring thoughts and get with what's "really" going on. So if it's not blacks winning the big sprints, then who is it?

Why does this remind me of a certain Jethro Tull album?

Reminds me of an ole blues song.

You really need to listen to some of the lyrics from those old.."Race Records." How about...

"I'll cut your throat mama, drink your blood like wine"....Peg Leg Howell Atlanta bluesman, first recorded in 1926.

The response you got in your attempt to tell the TRUTH about these obvious differences is all too predictable.

Start a thread about an association between blacks and crime, however, and you'll form a caucus.

                              Why?
                              Be specific, please.

Why am I limited to a 500 word minimum?

                                BTW...I only need one.
