  • Ed English - ever heard of a Trials Qualifier by that name

There are people I work with who claim this analyst named Ed English, went to the US Olympic Trials. From his appearance, I'd say he could be anywhere from late 30s to early 50s. Anyone ever heard of someone by that name at the trials? In what event?

    Thanks!!!

In the 8 OTs that have been contested since I joined T&FN (meaning all OTs from 1972 on), the only guy with the last name of English who competed was Maurice English in the '00 long jump.

Caveat: that statement is exclusive of the marathon, for which I can't easily access complete OT data. But the name doesn't ring a bell

no; he PRed at 7-2 in 1971, but didn't make the U.S. top 50 list (6-11 or better) in '72 and didn't compete in the OT. As I recall they wre using year-only performances in that era so we wouldn't have had a qualifier.

The only "English" to have competed in the OT since 1908 was Maurice English (LJ - 2000, PR of 7.79
