  • Never An Olympic Gold

This birthday athlete never won an Olympic gold medal, however this person did win two gold medals at the World Indoor Championships. Today (Wednesday) this athlete turns 54 years old.

Our birthday celebrity competed in three Olympic Games, winning one bronze medal. At the World Championships (outdoors), this person won two bronze medals.

This athlete was world class in another event.

Big clue: Competing in this athlete's final Olympics, this mystery person fouled half of all their jumps and
    still took the bronze medal.

Can you guess who is our birthday athlete for today, March 10?

LopenUupunut, your mind is good. Nice job and yes, happy birthday today to Larry Myricks. Of course Larry never won an Olympic gold medal because he had to jump against Carl Lewis or Mike Powell, although neither Carl nor Mike competed in Larry's first Olympic Games in 1976. Some of you may remember that Larry broke his foot during a warmup jump in Montreal. He had a very good shot at a medal in those Olympic Games, but it wasn't to be.
