  • little-known OG medalists

w/o googling and/or research, can you name these 5 OG silver or bronze medalists, with year and event? All from 1956 thru 1984, all men, no relays or walks. No cheating !

    Mike McLeod
    Petar Petrov
    Gheorge Megelea
    Lazar Lovasz
    Sergiy Zhelanov

    No cheating !

That is pretty funny since Mick Mcleod should have had a gold in 84 after the 'cheating' by Vainio, who was caught, and Cova, who should have been. However, to his credit he (Cova) did admit to his transgressions.

that's one right Conor... he did indeed get a silver in 84 10k when Vainio was dq'ed.

Megelea was a Rumanian in a field event--I think the jav but it may have been the tj (but I think there was another Rumanian tjer whose name was not Megelea and whose name I will remember in a few minutes if I really concerntrate, but why bother). Lovasz is a Hungarian name and so I'd assume he was a hammer thrower, although I have only the dimmest recollection of his existence. I'm completely blanking on the others.

Lazar Lovasz won bronze in the 1968 Hammer. Hungarian I think.

Petrov was a double Olympic finalist too. But does anybody think he would have medaled if Americans had been in Moscow? He would have been lucky to come 5th....
