Re: 136 Years Already?
Very good, LopenUupunut, it is Ellery Clark. Yes, Ellery was a champion all-around athlete (what it was called before the decathlon). He, in fact, was headed to win that event in the 1904 Olympics, but pulled out because of illness. Ellery graduated from Harvard and went on to write, teach, practice law, and even coach. Happy birthday today to Ellery Clark. He was born the same year as President Herbert Hoover (the only U.S. president to graduate from Stanford University).

136 Years Already?
Yes, today (Saturday) marks 136 years since the birth of today's mystery birthday athlete. This athlete won two Olympic gold medals in the same Olympic Games. This person also competed in a second Olympic Games, however did not medal because of illness.
Our birthday athlete for today was an author, a coach, a lawyer, and a teacher. Two of this athlete's novels were adapted for Hollywood films. This is the only athlete to win the Olympic gold medal in the high jump and the long jump.
Can you name this Olympian from long ago?Tags: None
