NCAA In/Out Trivia (from another thread)

Since it was headed World Champs trivia in its original form, the way this thread went is no longer evident. You were trying to find (no, really, you were!) 6 more people who won NCAA outdoor titles while competing indoors.

People correctly guessed Jan Johnson in the '70 PV and Carl Lewis in the '81 LJ.

One of them tied with another guy for whom I can't think of a clue, but the one I can think of went on to become a big-time AD; one of the biggest ever.

For the next guy, he was the seventh guy in 10 years from his school to be 1st.

The next guy broke one of the most significant barriers ever.

The next one got killed in battle.

The next one was a WR setter.

And the last one won the next two years in a row.

Hint: each guy is from a different event, and I presented the clues in event order (although the events aren't all next to each other in conventional event order).

I can't convince you that Cliff Cushman won a 400H title running indoors? Or that Rudolf Harbig ran for USC one year?

OK, Blozis ('40) is one, so you now know that two of the guys are in events that come after the shot and the rest are in events that precede it.

Ok Garry - let me put you out of my misery.

The two tying were the excellent John Wilson and the AD - Don Canham

The 7th in 10 years was 14'8 vaulter Kenny Dills
of USC (like Wilson)

The barrier breaker was Jackie Robinson

The WR setter was Pat Matzdorf

The 2 years ina row winner was (sneaky this one as he was the answer to the killed in battle question as well) - Al Blozis

almost!

The answer is that all the field events at the 1940 NCs in Minneapolis were moved indoors.

So the last two are not Matzdorf and Blozis again, but Archie Harris and Martin Biles.

Robinson's hint--broke one of the most significant barriers ever--was a trick, of course.
