  • Who am I?

55 years ago today I broke my own world record. I am still alive, and (useless clue to follow) I am now president of the national federation in a completely different sport. More helpful clue: I never won an Olympic medal. Who am I?

    Re: Who am I?

Pentti Karvonen broke his own world steeplechase mark in the mid 1950's and I know he never medaled in the Olympic Games. I actually got to meet him in Finland several years ago. I'm not sure if this is who you mean, but I can't think of anyone else from that time period.

Very good, Double R Bar. Pentti Karvonen improved his own world record in the steeplechase on July 15, 1955. He ran 8:45.4 which improved his own WR of 8:47.8.

He is now president of the Finnish skittles federation. Judging from their website, Finnish skittles resembles bowling, but instead of rolling a ball at the pins, one hurls a large stick, bigger than a baseball bat. If anybody can explain this sport better, please do!

I thought Skittles was a candy. I never really cared for them.
