  • Bob Kennedy, masters athlete

I don't have the brainpower, knowledge or creativity to make interesting birthday quizzes like Double R Bar offers us, so all I can do is say Happy 40th birthday to Bob Kennedy, one of USA's great distance runners -- a model for track and field athletes. Being a long-time resident of Ohio and Indiana, and an IU graduate, I enjoyed watching him come up through hs, college and beyond.

And now that he's 40, I really feel old...

I almost included Bob Kennedy with Rafer Johnson in today's quiz, but decided to go with the older of the two instead. Two interesting American record holders with the same birthday, but 35 years apart.

Quick quasi-trivia question.... Kennedy was from Ohio, but then went to college at Indiana University. What was a personal main reason he went to I.U. ?

            His dad ran at Indiana?
(also had great distance coach, Sam Bell - OSU had Russ Rogers)

Is this a trick question? Are you one of those Letsrun spies? Is kuha even your real name? CONFESS!

He was born in Bloomington and considers it to be his hometown.

...and he's still not training at altitude to beat the Kenyan masters runners!

                        :]

Is Bob Kennedy planning to run in master's races? I bet if he trained seriously he could probably still run a sub 14:00 5K.

And I'd bet that he does NOT want to train that seriously!

I eyeballed Kennedy here in Indy about a year ago, and it looked like he had gained a significant amount of weight. Plus, his wife is an rising big hitter in the Democratic party; a probable candidate for Mayor next year. We've had some unfortunate police scandals recently which make incumbent Republican Mayor Ballard's re-election a bit iffy.
Bottom line, methinks Bob is moving on to a new life's chapter, aka as running his three "The Running Company" stores and grooming himself to be the city's First Gentleman.
