Qu Yunxia - 1:55 at 800 and 2:24 in the marathon (both in the same year, too!)

I don't have details, but it would make sense. He was supposedly preparing to run the Marathon in the Los Angeles OG's, when the Swedes obtained a ruling disqualifying him as a professional. A 40K race or time trial fits within that history.[/quote:gcexnjoj]It was the '32 Finnish marathon trials, definitely not a time trial. Everybody else ran the full 42 and a bit kilometres (eventual OG bronze medalist Armas Toivonen won), but Nurmi quit a bit early, probably because his feet and legs were very sore.

I think he actually ran 40.2k, not 40k. (It's strange he didn't make it 25 miles (40.2336k), which was a quite common race at the time. IIRC William Kolehmainen's professional world record for 25 miles was 2:22.20 (though that was a split), while the amateur record was 2:24.xx.) Nurmi's time for 33.6 metres less was 2:22.03.8.

By the way, that 1:56.3 was NR at the time
