Lancaster High School (Ohio) had 3 over 60' in a dual meet in '74 or '75. They had a three man relay of 178'+ that same year which is still a state record without a huge toss leading the way (60', 59', 59'). With the exception of the conference meet and an early season relay meet, there were not opportunities for more than two to participate. Although, this may not be as rare as I think, a few years later ('77), the same school had 8 guys at 13'6" or higher in the PV. The school also produced '52 Olympian Gene Cole (:47.7 HS in '48, and :45.5 split in OG), & John Zishka '80 (4:03.8/13:55 HS).
This article from the International Herald Tribune has nothing to do with sports, but is very relevant to a "parochialism". The author is making a convincing argument that ignorance is a universal phenomenon (as most of us know). http://www.iht.com/articles/514736.html
