Brian Oldfield, in addition to the shot and discus, was very good in the 110 hurdles and the high jump. Can't remember his hurdles times but I think mid 14s. I saw him HJ 6' 9" (2.06). He also competed in at least 2 decathlons. He did good until the 1500, where he would have to walk part of the way! too many cigarettes!

    Page's PBs were:

    200m - 20.97
    110mH - 13.71
    400mH - 48.75
    HJ - 2.28m (2.29 indoors)

<Alexandra Chudina (USSR) - world class in HJ, LJ, JT, Pent, spiker on the volleyball team>.

Chudina is one of the best here. I still like Didrikson's 1932 golds in 80mH and JT, plus a silver in HJ. Just guessing she would have been a contender in the pentathlon if contested back then.

Seagren ran 52.0 (52.3y) in the 400H for USC in '69. Also ran on USC's 4x1 in some duals that year; second leg as I recall.

At the peak of my running career (age 16) I was told by my coach: "Remember when I told you that in order to be a great athlete, you have to have 1% of talent and 99% of hard work? Well, you just can't make it with no talent at all."

Why THANK YOU! This is far more adulation than I ever received back then. I only had to wait 37 years or so...but, boy, it WAS worth the wait! My head's so enlarged that I won't be able to get out of the house till tomorrow afternoon, at the earliest.

My highschool freshman 2 mile PR was 10:16 but I needed two hands to lift a shot-put. (LOL)

I'm not sure of the specifics but I would assume from the legends that Jim Thorpe would have been world class as many different evens in his day.
