  • Ohio High School Coaching Legend Passes

It's a sad day here in southwest Ohio, as long time Trotwood-Madison mentor Randy Waggoner passed away yesterday(Monday) in Dayton.

The 2008 Nike national HS coach of the year, his charges that year brought home three championships from the Nike Outdoor Nationals, winning the 4x200, 4x400, and Mike Shaw's 200m victory.

A coach to the end, his 2010 4x4 squad broke their existing Ohio state record, running 3:13.05. That, along with current Arizona State frosh Will Henry's victory in the 400, led Trotwood to a 2nd place finish, by a scant three points, in the large school team standing. His kids also won the 4x2 and 4x4 at the 2010 Nike Indoor Nationals.

Along with his coaching accomplishments, Waggoner helped found the longstanding Don Mitchell Roosevelt Memorial in Dayton, a national fixture that has counted numerous Olympians among it's many competitors over the years. Waggoner was a 1989 inductee into the Ohio Association of Track & Cross Country Coaches(OATCCC) hall of fame.

A great coach, and better man, we were fortunate to have him here in Ohio. His loss will be deeply felt.

    RIP Coach...

Also noted that T-M lost the state meet by .01 of a sec.
Outstanding track school over the past years. Yes, OH has lost a huge supporter and promoter of track and a true legend of the sport.

True, but in that case it's also worth noting Warren G. Harding, who won, had two non-qualifiers for sprint finals by a grand total of .01(Marvin Logan 5th is his 110 semi by .01 - would have been 4th in the other semi, and the 4x100 tied for the last spot, but was eliminated on the 1/1000's).
