  • Double Birthday

Today (Thursday) we say happy birthday to two Olympic champions. One is a man while the other is a woman. One turns 46 while the other turns 43 this day.

The man won two Olympic gold medals, three World Championship gold medals, and one World Championship silver medal. He also set a world record.

The woman has a collection of gold, silver, and bronze Olympic medals. She's the only woman to win her event twice at the Olympic Games.

The man comes from a country which is more than double the area of the woman's home country. The woman comes from a country which has more than twice the population of the man's country.

The woman's Olympic gold medals came in a field event, while the man's Olympic gold medals came in running events.

Who are these two Olympic champions born on Beethoven's birthday?

The woman must be Heike Drechsler.

      Re: Double Birthday

The woman is Heike Drechsler, TN1965. Good job, but that's only half the answer. Now, who is the man that comes from one of the three largest nations in land area in the world?

By the way, Heike Drechsler turns 46 today.

Very well done, LopenUupunut, it is Donovan Bailey (winner of the 100 at Atlanta) who turns 43 years old today. Even though Bailey was born in Jamaica, he competed for Canada, which is the second largest nation on Earth in land area. Only Russia is larger. Canada has less than half the population of Germany and even California has more people than does Canada.

Happy birthday Donovan Bailey and Heike Drechsler.
