  • Bannister/Abrahams

In "The Perfect Mile", Neal Bascomb refers to Harold Abrahams as " a British Olympic official". Of course, Abrahams was much more than that! He won the 1924 Olympic 100m title - of "Chariots of Fire " fame. By 1954 he had been championing Bannisters talents for many years, and he was also the BBC's main athletic commentator. And in that role., he would have commentated on the Bannister/Landy clash in Vancouver. Now a thought occured to me: Wouldn't it be great- if when/if they make the movie of "The Perfect Mile"- that they get Ben Cross - who played the young Abrahams in "Chariots of Fire"- to play the role of the middle-aged Abrahams. He'd just be the right age i.e. mid-50s.
