  • Patti Sue Plummer

What ever happened to her? Remember her making the Olympic team. I think she made the finals in either 1500 or 3000. Had some fierce races against Suzy Favor. Did injuries cause end of her competitive career?

After an international career of 10 years she got on with her life, working as a lawyer and becoming a mother.

No, I think it was just age. She's 42 years old, you know.

Wasn't Polly homecoming queen or somesuch in high school, all the while running sensational times (close to 4:30)?

Patti Sue was one tough cookie, though. I was thinking that she suffered some kind of back injury from a fall late in her career, possibly during one of those homestretch battles with Favor Hamilton.

Polly was pretty. And she ran 4:35.24 for a mile. Still listed by T&FN as the national high school record.
