I'm trying to find the result of some of the great Bislett 1 Mile races... I seem to recall one race in the '80's where a bunch of runners finished under 3:50/3:55, as I remember it it was the fastest race for a mile when you took the average from 1st til last. Any help?

In the 81 race, Ovett won in 3.49.25. Wessinghage came 7th in 3.50.91! I haven't got the times of the "slower" runners.

Just been looking at Steve Scott's "The Miler". In the 82 race, he won in 3.47.69 with Maree, Moorcroft and Walker all under 3.50. Scott describes the race as " the deepest mile ever".

Thank you all for the info... The average times alone make my head spin. The names read like a 'who's who' of Worlds Best Milers

I agree, and where do you see such races today?

No one mentioned the first great one ... 1979 when Coe won with WR 3:49.0 (3:48.95) and Scott just missed Ryun's AR at 3:51.1 (.11). Masback was 3rd with PR 3:52, and so on.
