Campbell is the right answer for the frosh (for extra credit, whose record did he break?)

Looks like Cliff Kell was the first soph to hit 60' back in 1965. He had a best that year of 62' 10-3/4".

    (freshman?) Arnold Campbell 60'3, 1981, age 14!
    67'3 1/4 as a soph in '82?

No, he's many years from being a correct answer.

So we should take this thread to its logical conclusion: who were the first frosh and soph to hit 60? I know who the frosh was, but not the soph.

Dallas Long - 3/4/1957 vs. Phoenix

Jim Smith - 4/13/1957 in Compton Cup

a question like that requires the digging out of old T&FN's, but they're at home and I'm at work, but maybe later....

You guys are soooo good, this should be a piece of cake. I do not know the answer.

In 1957, as juniors, Dallas Long tossed 61'5" and Jim Smith, a lefty, heaved 60'5". I believe one of these was the first junior to go over 60'. Anyone know who got there first?
