Happy 65th birthday today (Friday) to an OIympic champion who also owns an Olympic silver medal.

This champion competed in three Olympic Games.

At the age of 32, our birthday athlete won the Olympic Trials.

You don't need to think about the hurdles when trying to figure the name of our birthday champion.

A Pan American Games champion, this person was in Seoul (1988), Barcelona (1992), Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000), Athens (2004), and Beijing (2008), but not as a competitive athlete.

Our birthday gold medalist was not the favorite going into the Olympic Games in which this athlete won the gold medal.

In winning the Olympic gold medal, our birthday person set a national and an Olympic record.

Happy 65th birthday to Madeline Manning Mims and nice job, Bruce Kritzler. Of course you know that Madeline won the women's 800 in Mexico City some 44 years ago. Madeline was 20 years old when she ran 2:00.9 to set a new Olympic record. Vera Nikolic, the world record holder (2:00.5), was the big favorite going into Mexico City, however she walked off the track during her semi-final race and never finished. Some said the pressure got to her and she folded. Madeline's winning time was not only a U.S. record, but it was the third best on the all-time list for women.

I'm from Ohio, and recognized John Hay HS as a Cleveland HS. Tried to think of men who won the US Trials in 1980 (from Ohio), and finally figured it could be a woman.
